Summary:
The Ecological
Footprint Calculator is a tool that enables students to calculate their own ecological
footprint, and to visualize their footprint in various ways. The Ecological Footprint
Calculator measures our use of nature, by calculating how much land is required to produce
all of the resources we consume, and absorb all of the waste we produce. The concept is
described in the book, Our Ecological Footprint: Reducing Human Impact on the Earth, by
William Rees and Mathis Wackernagel. We are developing the Ecological Footprint Calculator
as a tool for students to calculate their own ecological footprint, and to visualize their
footprint in various ways (e.g. how many earths we would need if everyone on Earth had a
footprint like theirs). Details:

List View:
You can create and
save multiple surveys. You can give them unique names and attach notes to them. You can
also beam your surveys to a friend or receive surveys from them. |

1) Select your survey.
2) Click the Details Button
3) Click the Note Button

4) Write your notes.
Then click Done.

5) The list now shows the
note icon.
Click this to view your note.

Survey View:
To determine your
Ecological Footprint you must complete a survey of 13 multiple choice questions. |

Chart View:
You can display your
Ecological Footprint results as a pie chart. The pie chart shows you what percentage of
the survey taker's consumption is of each type of land use. |

Earth View:
You can display your
Ecological Footprint results to reflect how many Earths we would need if everybody
consumed as much land as the survey taker. |

Field View:
You can display your
Ecological Footprint results to reflect how many Football Fields we would need if
everybody consumed as much land as the survey taker. |

Graph View:
You can display the
survey taker's Ecological Footprint results as a bar graph. The bar graph compares the
survey taker's Ecological Footprint with the average footprints of people in other parts
of the world. |
